Using the Japan Association of College English Teachers directory for 1994 and 1995 as a database, about 250 questionnaires were mailed out to foreign English teachers around the country. The primary goals of the survey were to find out what sort of circumstances foreign English teachers were working under and to get information about what they perceived as problems with their teaching and/or working situations.
